Cork Maps and Orientation: Cityscape photoCork's commercial facilities and transportation options are excellent, and its history and surroundings have made the city a favourite tourist destination.

The city of Cork is reasonably compact, with most of the sights in the centre and the residential suburbs being just a bus trip away. An orientation bus tour leaves regularly from the junction of South Mall and Grand Parade, and travels around the city's main sites of interest.

The pedestrian-friendly city centre is dominated by St. Patrick's Street, originally built on arches over a now-dry channel of the river. Whether you're staying along the river's banks or in other areas of the city, Cork is a great base for touring the region's historic and charming towns.

Orientation of the City
A city map may not be needed in order to find things to see and do here, but for travelling around County Cork's countryside or even further afield, maps are essential, especially for the remoter locations.

Major hotels should be able to provide, as should Cork's Tourist Office on the Grand Parade. If car rental is on the agenda, the hire company may provide a local map. Basic county maps are available online for free, with more comprehensive versions downloadable for a small fee.
